Policy
On Christmas eve, the Senate passed their health reform bill.  This marks another historic step in changing our health access system and reforming the insurance industry!  While it is not as strong as the House version, it does get the process for passage back on track.  We are continuing to fight for the most critical pieces of the bill: affordability, immigrant inclusion, excise tax, and employer contribution.

Politics

Congress continues to discuss how to finalize a bill that will reach President Obama's desk.  Obama has expressed his desire to have the bill signed before the State of the Union address in early February ... which indicates that the process will be extended.  We are still waiting to hear (like many of you) about which congressional members will actually be participating in crafting the final version of the bill along with Pelosi, Reid and the White House.

Activities

As these details for the outstanding issues are discussed we are taking advantage of this time to make a push to leadership.  Please visit http://www.tfaforms.com/126987 to add your organization's name to the sign on letter addressed to the President and key members of congress.  There are thousands of organizations signed on already but we could use more (only 45 from CA).  Thank you to COFEM, Clinica Romero, CPEHN and Having Our Say for signing on.

CANCELLED - Congressman Waxman has cancelled the Wednesday, Jan. 6th Brown Bag Conference.  He is back in DC for HCR meetings.
