Work With CAP

California Partnership is hiring a SSI Statewide Coordinator based in the Bay Area to coordinate, facilitate and engage coalition building community organizations and strengthen CAP’/CA4SSI’s network in California. The SSI Statewide Coordinator will be responsible for carrying out advocacy work with anti-poverty community leaders for both SSI/SSP policy and budget advocacy and advocating for sustaining our safety net programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

California Partnership (CAP) is an economic justice statewide coalition of low income, people of color and community-based groups, organizing and advocating for the policies and programs that work to reduce and end poverty. CAP’s mission is to engage in state and local budget advocacy and identify revenue solutions and organize to build power and leadership among low-income and people of color communities by strengthening our voice and collective power to advocate for the policies that affect our lives the most through grassroots organizing, convening partners, and providing community education.

Over the years, CAP has spear-headed exciting campaigns to develop electoral power in low-income communities, give voice to local communities in creating a more just state budget, and build a movement for health care for everyone. California Partnership has member organizations across the state and is organized in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, the Central Coast, portions of the Central Valley, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside.

Californians for SSI (CA4SSI) is a coalition of anti-hunger, anti-poverty, aging, disability rights, housing groups, and others that have come together in response to an emergency situation in which over a million older Californians and people with disabilities are teetering on the edge of survival due to cuts made to make up for California’s budget shortfall in 2009. RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify and engage new potential partners; strengthen CA4SSI organizational network in all areas of California.

Provide information, training and support to engage CA4SSI partners, and community leaders in coalition activities.

Meet regularly with state elected officials to promote CA4SSI budget and policy priorities.

Plan and implement local events and statewide activities to engage CA4SSI partners in support of coalition priorities.

Create and update CA4SSI communication materials.

Coordinate the development of CA4SSI’s media plan; act as coalition spokesperson as needed.

Actively collaborate with other anti-poverty coalitions, represent and promote CA4SSI at meetings, conferences, and other public settings.

Additional duties as assigned by the Director and CA4SSI Infrastructure committee

Attend CAP LA Staff monthly meetings and participate on CAP Staff weekly calls.

Support, and facilitate CA4SSI’s coordinating committee as the decision making body for the coalition.

Ensure CA4SSI has significant presence at all necessary budget and legislative hearings and lobby days.

Identify and seek support for coalition needs, including research, communication, transportation and infrastructure.

Communicate and coordinate the availability of CA4SSI resources to coalition partners; track and report all spending.

Schedule and facilitate regular CA4SSI state-wide calls: participate on committee calls to ensure all activities are aligned.

Maintain and expand CA4SSI website and social media presence.

Accountable to CA4SSI partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Passionate personal commitment to the mission of California Partnership and CA4SSI

1-2 years organizing experience and working with communities

Experience facilitating trainings

Ability to multi-task and follow work plans

Willingness and drive to seek out relevant work and partners for building partnerships and coalitions

Highly organized and strategic thinker

Commitment to leadership development in others

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Creative, effective, and engaged collaborator

Willingness to travel, work evenings, and weekends

Knowledge of SSI/SSP a plus

Able to understand issues that pertain to Health and Human Services programs

Spanish language skills a plus
